A Gardener’s Gift Guide: The Spring Edition

If you’re a gardener, you know that there are always new things you need to buy for your garden. You need a new rake or a new pair of garden gloves (or 3 or 4). You need to purchase seeds, fertilizer, pots, plant stakes and more. The list seems never-ending as we go about getting our gardens ready in the spring. But we rarely buy the “fun” stuff. So today I’m sharing a gardener’s gift guide for spring. For all the things you don’t buy for yourself because there are to many “have to buys”.

Whether you are purchasing for yourself or for your favorite gardening friend we are all in the same boat. We pass on buying something we would enjoy because there are too many other things that we need for our gardens. So I scoured the internet to find gardening gift ideas that could bring us some joy, things that we might not normally buy for ourselves.

Coffee Mug

Start your day right with a garden themed coffee mug. Before you even head out the door to your garden, get inspired for the day. While you are sipping your morning coffee or tea you can plan your garden chores. Here are a few mugs to get you sipping.

Garden Apron

I have a set of clothes that I wear when gardening. Otherwise, I end up with dirt and holes in my “good” clothes. But even with gardening clothes, a garden apron is a must-have. It can protect you from the worst of spills and dirt and it’s a handy way to keep your gloves, spade and other tools close by. No more wondering where you set the hand pruners…they’re in your pocket.

New Hand Tools

Every new garden season is a good time to replace or add to your hand tool collection. There is such a wide variety of styles out there. Who needs boring when you can purchase floral clippers!

Movable Seat

This is one of my favorite garden gadgets. I have reached the point in life where squatting down to pull weeds, trim plants or pick berries can be difficult on the knees. So I have a rolling garden cart to sit on. This makes weeding a breeze. Planting my large terracotta pots is so much easier when I don’t have to bend over for a prolonged time. These seats can be carts on wheels or little chairs that you move. I like the stability of the heavy duty cart. Here are a few choices.

Fun Seeds

We all have our favorite companies when it comes to purchasing garden seeds. But when you need a fun seed packet as a gift idea or decoration consider these options.

Soaps and Lotions

Working in the garden is a dirty job. So when the day is over you will need some soap to wash off all that dirt. Most gardeners can benefit from some soothing lotion for their hands as well. Here are a few options for products to help clean and sooth your hard-working hands.

Garden Books

For as many gardening topics and interest we have, there’s a book. Do you like practical garden books that give you step-by-steps or garden books that inspire you to dream of what your garden could be? Do you like older, vintage books or brand new, hot-off-the press books? No matter what style of garden book, there’s one out there for you and your gardening friends. Here are a couple to get your imagination soaring.

Garden Journal

You can never have enough journals in my opinion. A garden journal is the perfect place to track your annual plantings and projects. It’s also a great way to jot down your future dreams and plans.

Garden Decor

Decorate your shed and garden with whimsical items or choose classic pieces. Add vintage-style or modern decor. How you decorate your garden is as individual as how you decorate your home.

I hope that you have found some interesting and fun items to pick up for yourself or for your fellow gardening buddies. You might need a gift for Mother’s Day, a birthday, May Day, graduation, a shower or a wedding this spring. Surprise a friend  by leaving a gift on a their porch. Take a garden-themed hostess gift the next time you are invited to a friend’s house. Or maybe you need a “just because” gift. Honestly, you don’t have to have a reason to spread a little joy to your friends and family.

Spring is a great time to freshen up your garden and shed. Hopefully this Spring Edition of A Gardener’s Gift guide has given you some new ideas to think about. Happy Gardening!
